Here on Lake Conroe we have no choice- and Entergy rates are now over 16 cents per LW. The way they do this is to charge a rate for power and an energy surcharge. This is a damned insult because electricity producers hedge energy costs months- often years- in advance. I worked for an oil and gas company and know about these hedged prices. How/who can find out out what rate Entergy is actually paying for natural gas - but most importantly- why don't we have a choice. We could choose to get power from a company that didn't panic and hedge too high prices. We could "vote with our feet"- and that would keep companies like Entergy from overcharging. Entergy(Gulf States) especially is overcharging Texas to recover their losses in New Orleans and the coast-- and you can bet that they also have/are/will claim tax losses too.Why are we forced to subsidize their greed? This request has also been sent to the Texas Senators in Washington because this is an interstate problem.
